Glenn Beck on Ron Paul: Soros Connection? 9/11 Truther?

Apparently Barney Frank and Ron Paul partnered in a project called the Sustainable Defense Task Force in which the main purpose was to reduce defense spending by around $1Trillion over the next ten years.  I am in favor of making some cuts to the defense budget but these type of deep cuts are irresponsible and will be detrimental to the safety of the U.S.  Anything that says "sustainable" or has that in its title I am quite leery of.  That usually means that the group follows progressive principles which seeks to undermine the Constitution and all that makes the United States good as a nation.

There is a difference between cutting and gutting the defense budget.  Plus, the cuts that Ron Paul, Barney Frank, Soros & Co proposed is not limited to the reduction of the number of bases and/or military personnel overseas but rather it guts very important parts of defense that our integral to our national security.

Here is a list of the the individuals on the Task Force.

Sustainable Defense Task Force

  • Carl Conetta, Project on Defense Alternatives - Connected to George Soros
  • Benjamin H Friedman, Cato Institute -
  • William D Hartung, New America Foundation - Connected to George Soros
  • Christopher Hellman, National Priorities Project - Connected to Soros
  • Heather Hurlburt, National Security Network - Connected to George Soros
  • Charles Knight, Project on Defense Alternatives - Connected to Soros
  • Lawrence J Korb, Center for American Progress - Connected to Soros
  • Paul Kawika Martin, Peace Action - Connected to George Soros
  • Laicie Olson, Center for Arms Control and Non-Proliferation - Connected to Soros
  • Prasannan Parthasarathi, Boston College
  • Miriam Pemberton, Institute for Policy Studies
  • Laura Peterson, Taxpayers for Common Sense
  • Christopher Preble, Cato Institute
  • Winslow Wheeler, Center for Defense Information - Connected to George Soros

Front Page Mag provides more insight into those who have Soros connections.

The panel of experts who would decide how to best gut national defense featured such independent thinkers as William D. Hartung of the New America Foundation. Hartung’s main expertise was appearing in “Hijacking Catastrophe: 9/11, Fear & the Selling of American Empire.”
Then there was Lawrence J. Kolb of the Center for American Progress and Miriam Pemberton of the Institute for Policy Studies. If you want to know what the Center, the Foundation and the Institute all have in common, it’s Hungarian and smells like stale cabbage and the death of nations.
The rather creepy Institute for Policy Studies issued a paper proposing that Obama act as king and rule through executive orders. The New American Foundation is not only backed by Soros but has his son on its leadership council. The Center for American Progress is run by the co-chair of Obama’s transition team and is, for all intents and purposes, the think tank of the White House. All three are Soros funded.
But it doesn’t end there. Also on the panel was Christopher Hellman of the National Priorities Project (NPP). If you are wondering what the NPP is, it’s a think tank whose objective is to “influence national spending priorities.”  And if you’re in the mood for a double, Miriam Pemberton is also on the board of the NPP. The man behind the curtain at NPP? None other than our favorite Hungarian James Bond villain.
Going further down the list there’s Winslow Wheeler of the Center for Defense Information (CDI).           The CDI’s goal is to strengthen “national and international security through international cooperation [and] reduced reliance on unilateral military power to resolve conflict.” CDI operates under the aegis of the World Security Institute, which is apparently the least creepy name they could think of. Wheeler is a Counterpunch contributor, a site which even Stalinists think goes a bit too far. CDI gets money from the Open Society Institute (OSI) where the stench of death and stale cabbage never goes away.
You can see additional information here
Did you see that 9 out of the 14 members on the Task Force are connected to George Soros?  I find that deeply troubling.  I find that troubling on so many levels, especially since Ron Paul claims to be "principled".  If he is so principled why did he allow so many people (or any) with connections to George Soros to sit on his Sustainable Defense Task Force?

From FrontPage Mag: "The task force’s proposals included cutting nuclear deterrence; reducing the fleet by 57 ships, including two carriers; canceling the Joint Strike Fighter; “severely curtail missile defense” — and that is a direct quote from the report — retiring four Marine battalions; reducing the military by 200,000 personnel; cutting defense research spending by 50 billion over ten years; and increasing health care fees for members of the military."

I agree with Beck's assessment of Ron Paul.

Ain't That The Pot Calling the Kettle Black

From the mouth of the Opportunist-in-Chief:

Congress. . .must not shirk its responsibilities,” according to a White House readout of the conversation.

Ain't that the pot calling the kettle black?  When the heck has this opportunistic narcissist focused on jobs instead of himself and his re-election campaign?  Obama has shirked his duties as President since he took the oath of office.  This presidency has been one big extravaganza of concerts, ballgames, golf outings, vacations, visits to cities selling his image to the public but no, not ever truly focusing on what is important in America - jobs and our economy.  His administration has not been promoting economic and business policies which encourages economic growth in the private sector but rather policies which discourages and demonizes growth and success.   The only time he has spoken the word jobs (which has 4 letters Joe Biden - Kindergarten?) is when it is accompanied by his sanctimonious rhetoric castigating the GOP for their solutions to the economic disaster, a lingering economic disaster which his policies are responsible for perpetuating.
Smitty over at The Other McCain points out the level of the dishonorable  brinksmanship and dastardly tactics that the White House and Obama are willing to play during this scrimmage.

Seriously. If the intent all along was to punish the Administration’s political foes in particular, and America in general, then the Administration’s actions make sense:
  1. Play the brinksmanship game in the Spring of 2011,
  2. load the poison pill into the Super Committee, and then
  3. make the GOP eat more brinksmanship and the poison pill when the Super Committee, necessarily, fails.
Brilliant! If I wasn’t so thoroughly disgusted at the Machiavellian evil that is this Administration, I would be tempted to admire the perverse talent involved. As with the collapse of the Euro, there doesn’t seem to be much to do in the case of the Super Committee except sound the collision alarm and grab onto something solid.

Over at HotAir, Allahpundit wonders aloud:
Is The One seriously threatening to block a bill that would lift those cuts in the event of a Super Committee deadlock, knowing full well that the GOP will use Panetta’s soundbite to destroy him for it next year? Remember: This guy does not take political risks, and he certainly doesn’t take them in the name of cutting spending. Could be that the fear of another downgrade is weighing on him if the triggers are rescinded, which will pose a threat to his reelection if the market reacts badly, but what are the odds that investors will flee the safety of Treasuries under any circumstance given the chaos in Europe?
Is it possible that Obama & Co want draconian cuts to defense?  His threatening to block a bill which would lift those cuts sure is in America's national security interests. Or not?  This is yet more gutter politics coming from the Democrats.

Debt Limit Talks, Cut Cap & Balance, and What is the Principled Thing To Do?

I have been watching this whole debt debate and as it rages on it seems that the debt ceiling negotiations are getting nuttier by the day.   We are seeing the clash of philosophies go head to head.  Democrats and Obama believe in playing the class warfare card.  The President refuses to mention with specificity even one thing that he is willing to cut from the budget.  In contrast the President has laid out in great specificity how he wants to tax the "rich". He wants to raise taxes while Republicans do not.  IMO, the crux of the problem lies with Obama.  The philosophies of both the conservatives and liberals are so far apart that they don't agree on much, if anything, in the way of how to fix the debt problem.  While the President likes to portray the GOP as being ideologically entrenched and unwilling to compromise his own words have shown that this is a case of the pot calling the kettle black.  For example, Eric Cantor realized that the two sides are two far apart to agree on a "grande bargain" so he stated that he would be willing to move a a short-term debt limit increase alongside smaller spending cuts but then Obama, the man-child President, said to Cantor “Eric, don’t call my bluff." Then according to Eric Cantor he told reporters that “He (Obama) shoved back and said ‘I’ll see you tomorrow’ and walked out."  Obama has shown that he can't stand to be challenged politically, and that he takes it personally so I can believe that this happened the way Eric Cantor portrayed the event.

Do you think that Eric Cantor was political posturing? Or do you think that Obama was political posturing?

Back in 2009 Obama stated that he wasn't looking to raise taxes until possibly 2013.  But now he is so entrenched and committed to raising taxes.

"So, when you hear folks saying, “Well, the president shouldn’t want massive job killing tax increases when the economy is this weak.” Nobody’s looking to raise taxes right now. We’re talking about potentially 2013 and the out years."

So why does Obama want to raise taxes when our economy is so weak and on the verge of a double dip recession?  We shouldn't be raising taxes on anyone while our economy is so weak.

What is a principled stance for the Republicans?  Do you think that it would be irresponsible for the GOP not to raise the debt ceiling or would it be irresponsible for them to raise the debt ceiling?  Or should the GOP raise the debt ceiling ONLY IF the President and Congress goes along with their Cut Cap and Balance Pledge?  Or a similar plan? In all likelihood it would seem that in all probability that there is going to be some sort of compromise by both parties.  Or do you think that the GOP should stand firm and risk the U.S. hitting the debt ceiling?  And thus possibly defaulting?  Then we have President Obama who is using fear mongering tactics, saying we may not have enough money to pay out social security, medicare and medicaid, and military benefits in order to put pressure on the Republicans.  If the debt ceiling isn't raised then Obama might actually be forced to make some immediate and necessary budget cuts but that is something he isn't willing to do.

The Weekly Standard explains that the revenues would cover social security, medicaid and medicare, and military benefits.

The BPC study found that the United States is likely to hit the debt limit sometime between August 2 and August 9. “It’s a 44 percent overnight cut in federal spending” if Congress hits the debt limit, [Jay Powell of the Bipartisan Policy Center]said. The BPC study projects there will be $172 billion in federal revenues in August and $307 billion in authorized expenditures. That means there's enough money to pay for, say, interest on the debt ($29 billion), Social Security ($49.2 billion), Medicare and Medicaid ($50 billion), active duty troop pay ($2.9 billion), veterans affairs programs ($2.9 billion).

I just saw this on Eric Cantor's Facebook Page: "This debate is not a question of personalities; it is about doing what is right for the country."

I agree.

The Cut, Cap, and Balance Plan consists of :

1.  Cut - We must make discretionary and mandatory spending reductions that would cut the deficit in half next year.

2.  Cap - We need statutory, enforceable caps to align federal spending with average revenues at 18% of Gross Domestic Product (GDP), with automatic spending reductions if the caps are breached.

3.  Balance - We must send to the states a Balanced Budget Amendment (BBA) with strong protections against federal tax increases and a Spending Limitation Amendment (SLA) that aligns spending with average revenues as described above.

Then we have Mitch McConnell's plan which would basically cede power to Obama and allow him to raise the debt limit three times during the rest of his term. This lame brain idea would put the onus of the blame for the skyrocketing debt on Obama.  That option would mean that both parties would be kicking the can down the road.  Old Geezer Mitch must have left his brain at home that day because this plan is absurd.  The American people don't want McConnell to wave the white flag of defeat to Obama & Co.  The American people want solutions and not political chicanery. Clueless McConnell needs to stop playing political games and instead concentrate on trying to find a solution to the debt crisis, stop acting like a wimp and stand up to Obama.

In your opinion what do you think is the principled position for the Republicans?  What are your thoughts on the debt and debt ceiling issues?

The Rubber Backbone Award Goes To . . .

There are times when compromise is good and times when compromise is bad.  When compromising occurs one must not abandon principles, they must not push principles to the side like leftover scraps.
After coming home last night from spending a nice evening at the movies I was surprised to find out that the Republicans and Democrats had struck a budget deal. Did the GOP wave the white flag and surrender just like General Robert E. Lee did on this date in 1865?  It seems like we got a mixed-bag where some deals the GOP made were good, and some of the items the GOP caved on.

Well, let's see here... The budget is only $1.049 trillion for the remainder of 2011 fiscal year.  This is ONLY $39 billion less than last year. This country is so close to bankruptcy we are about to fall off of the cliff and this congress is so utterly incompetent and complacent that they think cutting a measley $39 billion is "historic" as Sen. Reid stated.  These cuts are just a drop in the bucket. Congress needs to reverse course on their fiscally insane spending policies and make the tough calls needed in order to save this country from going bankrupt.  Military spending may even be able to be reduced instead of increased from last year's budget.

These jelly fish lacking a spine Congressman caved on eliminating funding to both Planned Parenthood and NPR.  The GOP should have held firm on these two items.  We need to stop letting these radicals who are so in love with abortive infanticide make us play along in their deceitful word games and start calling things exactly what they are so from now on I will be referring to Planned Parenthood as Planned Killerhood.  If NPR really wants to be considered a successful business instead of a news group filled with Left-wing extremists who are reliant on government assistance and can't hack it in the real world then they should refuse to accept money from the taxpayers immediately.  There is absolutely no reason, when this country is on the brink of financial insolvemcy, that the taxpayers should be funding NPR.

The GOP dropped provisions that would have barred the EPA from regulating greenhouse gases and the FCC from implementing "net neutrality" rules.

This is simply inexcusable.  The GOP leadership are a bunch of cowards.  They should have demanded that these provisions be included.

Here comes the good news.  There will be no funds used for the transfer of prisoners from Gitmo to the U.S. mainland.  This forces the Senate to take up or down votes on separate bills to stop funding for the health care law.  The budget deal also bans public funds from being used for abortions in Washington D.C. This re-establishes the school voucher program for low-income families in the District of Columbia.  This creates a mandate for the audit of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau which was created via the Dodd-Frank financial overhaul law.

Once again, it's worth repeating, the GOP leadership are a bunch of cowards!  They have failed to lead and stand on principle at a time when it is very important.  The GOP leadership is given the rubber backbone award.
